Happy Smiling Birthday Cake Faces

I had a very nice birthday celebration yesterday! Ross woke me up at 5:49 a.m. (the time that I was born) to wish me a happy birthday before he left for work (my mom would have, but I think she was a little scared to, remembering how pissed off I was to be woken up 32 years ago)! We all went out to dinner at La Dip Fondue... a bit disappointing, but at least it gave us something to laugh about. First of all, they ran out of oil... how do you run OUT of oil at a fondue restaurant??? I actually offered to run home or to the grocery store & get some if they would like. They had a large drink selection so my mom & I ordered drinks with vodka in them (the guys ordered beers). The waiter then informs us that they don't actually have a hard liquor license, and they would have to substitute "orange wine" for the vodka??? WHAT!!?!? Who has ever heard of an Orange Wine Tonic?? We finally order wine (Viogner) and our waiter, who proclaimed himself "very proficient at the wine list" asks us to clarify whether we meant Viognier, "the type of wine" or Viognier, "the Italian word for wine"... WHAT?!?!? When we finally order food, we are again informed of a freak food shortage striking this one & only establishment... PORTABELLA MUSHROOMS! Again, my mind turns to the grocery store a few yards away, imagining all the portabellas layed out as far as the eye can see... to top it off, the waiter talked so softly that we could barely hear what he was saying... Ross made the statement that if we were lucky we might get to see his balls drop that very night... alas... I'm afraid that did not happen...
Thank you to Ross, Dad-E-O, Mamacita, (Mama & Papa G, in spirit)... and La Dip Waiter... for making my birthday so special! I love you guys (well, maybe not the waiter)!

Happy Birthday Papa G (6/25)

Ahhh, the old Beatles song. Never thought you'd live to see the day, did you? Well, we still need you and you seem to do alright feeding yourself (with the occasional use of a bib). Hope your day is wonderful, have a great trip! We love you!!!

Comedy Relief

Alright, so this not-working-thing is getting the better of me... I have my first "crazy cat lady" story of the season...
So I'm walking past the "office" and I hear a low, gutteral, "rahw". I walk in & call Henry's name and he starts REALLY meowing... it's coming from the closet. I open the closet doors & see his tail sticking out of a cardboard box... the kind with no lid but with flaps that you can fold up to close. Apparently curiosity got the better of him but the flaps closed up over him & he couldn't figure out how to free himself. Now, I know every "mother" wants to believe that their "children" are the smartest but today I was faced with the realization that Henry is a...CAT! Who knew? The pitiful cries of frustration were totally tolerable because it was just good comedy! I can only hope that human children will someday provide such pleasure!

Go see "Knocked Up"!!!!!

Oh my god, seriously the funniest movie ever! You must see this movie. I about pissed myself I was laughing so hard... Ali loved it too. Do yourself a favor and go for some good ol' laugh therapy. It was real, sweet, well acted and just a great time. Judd Apatow (writer/director) is my new hero!

Camping in Point Reyes

This weekend we went camping in Olema on the Point Reyes National Seashore. We met Ma & Pa Wilford (and Kaya & Maggie) and camped in the "new" trailer... very comfortable! Saturday we all took a hike up to Tomales Point... Tomales Bay on one side, the ocean on the other... gorgeous views & perfect weather. You can see more about it on the Wilford's hiking blog (there's a link to the left under Our Favorite Links). Sunday we had a picnic at the Marin French Cheese Factory... we consumed plenty of delicious cheese & wine. Ross is in Chicago this week for training & I actually have a language arts curriculum meeting at my district office on Wednesday... WORK! I better brush up on my people interaction skills before then! We leave you with a view of Tomales Bay from the beginning of the trail...

Monterey Pictures

The Wharf & Cannery Row on Monterey Bay...
We were immediately greeted by a Harbor Seal sunning itself on a rock.
There was something vaguely familiar about the view...

We did a little wine tasting on Cannery Row, with a fabulous view of the Bay! We also spent a little time on San Carlos Beach soaking up the sun.

Our room at the B&B was decorated with balloons when we arrived...

All the Victorian flower motifs coupled with the knowledge that we had to spend the entire weekend alone together was making us a little loopy...

Mission San Carlos Borromeo Del Rio Carmelo... it may be summer vacation, but I couldn't resist teaching Ross a little California history...

17 Mile Drive...

Before heading home, we stopped in Moss Landing Village. There were 2 little sea otters in the harbor. Every so often they would kick their legs to gain momentum and use their tails as rudders to help them steer.

We also found our new favorite restaurant... mmmmmmm!

We had such a great time & it's also good to be home again! The new Subee ran like a champ (we've had a request from our mothers to quit referring to it as the "new baby", it only gets their hopes up that we are referring to an actual grandchild)... but we love it anyway, it's definitely worth having for all our road trip adventures!
Drop us a comment & let us know you're out there! We'd love to hear from you!

One Down... Forever to Go

I mean that in a good way! We just got back from celebrating our 1st wedding anniversary in Monterey last night. We had a fabulous time... the wharf, Cannery Row, Pacific Grove, wine tasting, Carmel, 17 mile Dr., and Moss Landing. We've got plenty of pics, so check back later for more :)

I Know What We Did Last Summer

Okay, so it was technically spring...
Just think, a year ago we had so many people we love all in one place sharing our special day. We've had so many blessings this year, it's impossible to put it all into words... we'll let the memories speak for themselves! Tomorrow we head to Monterey (with the new baby) to stay at a B&B that we stayed in when we were first dating. Ross gets a well deserved 4 day weekend, yay! We'll see if the top of that wedding cake has survived the long, cold winter!

Please welcome to the family

The new baby...(and us dorking out!)
Here's to safe and fun travels, cheers!
